Volunteers are the backbone of our riding program. Each student requires a horse leader and up to two sidewalkers, who are volunteers. The leader must have experience with handling horses, while the sidewalkers do not. The purpose of the sidewalkers is to provide the rider with a sense of security while riding. Volunteers are asked to commit to one hour each week for a session, which may last from five to eight weeks. Walking is great exercise! Forgo that one hour walk in the mall and get your exercise at the Ranch by being a horse leader or sidewalker for a special needs rider! Our volunteers are men, women and teenagers who are at least 16 years old.
You don't want to miss this experience! Witnessing a child accomplish a task for the first time will warm your heart. Seeing the excitement on a child's face when they see "their" horse will make you smile. Knowing that you are making a difference in a child's life will make you proud. Come join us at the Runnin' WJ Ranch!
